Mercy Hospital accused of failing to take 'even the most basic security measures’ during 2018 shooting

The family of a pharmacist killed has filed a lawsuit

The family of a pharmacist killed last year during a shooting at Chicago's Mercy Hospital has filed a lawsuit alleging the hospital "completely failed to take even the most basic and simple safety and security measures" that could have saved her life, according to an article on the Chicago Tribune website.

Dayna Less, 24, was shot and killed after she stepped off an elevator into the hospital’s lobby on Nov. 19.

The complaint says the hospital’s director of public safety was notified that the shooter was armed before he fired his gun, but failed to respond appropriately.

The hospital has a policy that calls for locking down the building and notifying people inside of the threat, according to the complaint.
