Michigan hospitals working to prevent infections

Muskegon, Grand Rapids facilities working to safeguard patients and their bottom lines

Hospitals in Muskegon and Grand Rapids, Mich., are working to prevent infections to safeguard patients and their bottom lines, according to an article on the MLive website.

Mercy Health Muskegon's infection control group, which includes nurses, physicians, environmental specialists and other associates, often revisit the hospital's sanitation practices.

The multidisciplinary group has identified light switches, door knobs, bed rails and other "high risk," "high touch" zones that need special attention, the article said.

The group has also measured the staff's cleaning practices by using special markers and black light technology to see if cleanings were thorough.
