Mission Linen Supply Earns LEED Silver Certification for Newark Facility

Mission Linen Supply, a leading provider of linens, uniforms, laundry services and supplies, has been honored with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for its plant in Newark.

The plant — which celebrated its grand opening in February 2018 and serves organizations throughout the Bay Area — includes a wide variety of “green” features. LEED certification — a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement offered through the U.S. Green Building Council — is awarded to facilities that are built to save water, energy and resources while generating less waste and supporting human health.

Mission’s Newark plant received 52 points across a variety of criteria related to environmental sustainability, earning it LEED Silver certification.

The Newark facility uses less than 0.85 gallons of water per pound of laundry — making it three times more efficient than the industry standard — and 45 percent of the wastewater produced at the plant is recycled. Solar panels cover more than 50 percent of the roof, and all areas inside the building use energyefficient lighting, such as LED fixtures and skylights.

Boiler stack economizers and wastewater heat reclaimers provide improved heat retention, reducing energy use. Additionally, more than 25 percent of the plant’s delivery fleet vehicles use alternative fuels.

“Environmental sustainability has been an integral part of Mission’s approach since our founding in 1930, and we’re thrilled to have achieved this significant milestone,” said Mission’s president and CEO, John Ross.

“The Newark facility is our first plant to receive LEED Silver certification, and we look forward to continuing to challenge ourselves to reach greater and greater heights in our companywide efforts to preserve and protect the environment.”

Across all Mission facilities, environmentally friendly procedures and technologies save an estimated 141,000,000 million gallons of water and 1,030,000 kWh of energy each year.

The company also implements numerous paper-free business practices, uses environmentally friendly washroom chemicals and offers multiple “green” product choices to its customers.
