Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare in Muskoka. Ontario, Canada, is weighing its options for future growth, deciding between a single hospital, two hospitals or one hospital and one urgent care center, according to an article on the Muskoka Region website.
“This isn’t about saving money, this isn’t about designing something that costs less, although, obviously, the efficiency of it is an important component,” Harold Featherston, chief executive of diagnostics, ambulatory and planning, said in the article. “It is about trying to develop something that is appropriate for the services that we’re going to provide.”
The single-site model was preferred for patient- and family-centered care, design, construction, provincial support and cost.
The two-site model was preferred for community support, fundraising, and municipal and district support, while also scoring well for design and patient- and family-centered care.
