N.M. board questions timing of potential new hospital

With the future of U.S. healthcare laws in flux, the state Board of Finance on Tuesday expresses doubt about new project

With the future of U.S. health care laws in flux, members of the New Mexico Board of Finance recently expressed doubt about whether the University of New Mexico should proceed with plans for a new hospital, according to an article on the Albuquerque Journal website.

University officials say the project would replace out-of-date and inefficient adult care facilities at its existing hospital.

Gov. Susana Martinez raised questions about the feasibility of the proposed hospital, given the uncertainty over the future of Medicaid.

About 40 percent of UNMH revenue comes from Medicaid reimbursements, and Martinez suggested it might be “prudent” to wait a year or two to get more clarity about the national picture.
