CaroMont Health in Gastonia, N.C., is planning a $16.5 million project that will increase the size of its emergency department by nearly 70 percent, according to an article on the Charlotte Business Journal website.
The construction and renovation project will boost the emergency department to nearly 49,000 square feet from the current 28,848.
Fifteen years ago, the facility was designed to treat 60,000 patients annually. Today, CaroMont sees about 100,000 patients at that facility each year, according to the article.
When complete, the emergency department will feature a larger waiting room and intake area for patients, with four private triage rooms added. A dedicated pediatric unit will offer separate waiting, triage and treatment rooms, the article said. CaroMont also plans to relocate its imaging services.
