NFMT event to include seminar on stormwater planning for health and resilience at MedStar Harbor Hospital

The 2017 National Facilities Management & Technology event offers three full days of education, speakers, networking with peers, and a giant expo hall. All for free.


This year's National Facilities Management & Technology (NFMT) event will include a seminar on stormwater planning for health and resilience at MedStar Harbor Hospital.

This case study will describe a multi stakeholder experience in developing a stormwater master plan for MedStar Harbor Hospital, located on the bank of the Patapsco River in Baltimore. The project team includes MedStar Harbor Hospital, Blue Water Baltimore, Plisko Sustainable Solutions, and the Neighborhood Design Center. The case study will explore the following steps: engage executive leadership, survey and value-based assessments, on-site tour, decision matrix and criteria to compare alternative solutions and a stormwater master plan. Presenters will focus on multi stakeholder participation, on-site meetings, group decision making, and long term planning and financing.

Learning objectives include:

1. Identify the costs, health effects, and impacts of stormwater management

2. Discuss best management practices of health care facilities

3. Describe the MedStar Harbor hospital case study for developing a stormwater master plan

4. Present potential funding sources for implementing stormwater management programs

The session, scheduled for March 8 at 10 a.m. (EST), will be given by Joan Plisko, PhD, President of Plisko Sustainable Solutions; Brian Gray.
