NHS launches emergency plans after cleaning contractor collapses

Extra staff sent to six major hospitals to ensure cleaning, maintenance and catering services keep operating


The UK's NHS has launched emergency contingency plans across 14 hospital trusts to maintain essential services previously delivered by collapsed contractor Carillion, according to an article on the Independent website.

Additional staff have been sent to six major hospitals at maximum capacity where Carillion is contracted to provide maintenance, catering, cleaning and portering services.

The construction and services company, which went into compulsory liquidation, is also in the middle of constructing two new hospitals which could now face further delays.

The company’s 8,000 staff in the healthcare sector, have been urged by the company appointed to manage the liquidation, to continue coming to work and promised that they will be paid.
