National Association’s New Name Reflects Leadership of Volume to Value Movement

The professional association formerly known as CAPG, the Voice of Accountable Physician Groups is now America’s Physician Groups:  Taking Responsibility for America’s Health.  Founded 23 years ago, America’s Physician Groups is the leading association in the country representing physician organizations practicing capitated, coordinated care.

“This is more than just a name change,” said Donald H. Crane, President and CEO of America’s Physician Groups.  “By accepting capitation and other budget-based payment models, and by sponsoring quality incentive programs, our members are actively taking responsibility for America’s health.”

“For too long, our healthcare system has operated under antiquated fee-for-service reimbursement models that are based on quantity of care rather than quality of care,” Crane continued.  “We are leading the transformation of our healthcare system into one that places a premium on quality and value.”

Under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), there is now underway a national movement towards new alternative payment methodologies.  Many physician groups have adopted these methodologies, and have been practicing in non-fee-for-service models for decades.

“The responsible payment models America’s Physician Groups’ members have embraced address the spiraling increases in healthcare costs by making them accountable for quality while sharing financial risk.  Our members are offering real solutions to the nation’s healthcare challenges.  And while our name has changed, our commitment to America’s health remains as strong as ever,” Crane concluded.
