National Guard Helping Ease Long-Term Care Facilities’ Staffing Issues

National Guard members are also help run COVID-19 testing sites


California National Guard members have been stationed in nursing homes to help with a variety of tasks. including rearranging furniture and disinfecting the facilities, according to an article on the Texas Public Radio website.

Guard members have been stationed in at least 25 nursing homes, two hospitals, and two other medical centers.  

Members of the Guard are also running mobile pop-up testing sites. 

The California National Guard had as many as 13 rapid medical strike teams spread across the state as healthcare facilities scrambled to staff up against the virus when the pandemic began. As staffing demands have eased, it's down to five teams.

The National Guard has also been active in a number of other states, including Connecticut, where it has teamed with the Department of Public Health to inspect nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout Connecticut, according to an article from the U.S. Army website.
