New CDC website to support long-term care infection control

Facilities can use the site to access the infection tracking system for long-term care facilities in the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Long-term care facilities can refer to a newly launched Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website to access information and resources to prevent infections, according to an article on the McKnight's website.

The new CDC site offers information including hand hygiene, antibiotic stewardship and dialysis safety. An estimated 1 to 3 million serious infections occur in LTC settings annually, according to the article.

Facilities can use the site to access the infection tracking system for long-term care facilities in the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network, as well as resources that the CDC developed in partnership with the Advancing Excellence in America's Nursing Homes Campaign.

“The partnership between CDC and AE grew tremendously through our joint effort to develop and launch the infection goal to prevent C. difficile infections in nursing home residents,” according to the CDC's Nimalie Stone, M.D..

The CDC will continue to add content to the website, as the agency recognizes there “are many resources we still need to meet,” according the article.
