New R20 sustainable insulation from CertainTeed helps builders and contractors meet IECC codes

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Valley Forge, Pa. – CertainTeed is adding R20 Sustainable Insulation to its family of high-performance fiberglass insulation solutions, helping builders and contractors meet increasing IECC code requirements without the need for additional exterior insulation. Specifically, the new product will meet 2012 IECC requirements that wood-frame walls have at least an R20 thermal performance, which applies to 25 states, or otherwise include R13 cavity insulation coupled with R5 insulation sheathing.

"By adding an R20 product to our line of Sustainable Insulation, we're offering an efficient solution to help our customers meet the newest code requirements in one step while staying within the wall, saving the additional material and labor cost of installing exterior insulation," said Drew Brandt, vice president of marketing and R&D for CertainTeed's Insulation Group. "Since Sustainable Insulation is third-party verified through a life cycle assessment and EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), builders and contractors can be confident they're installing the best in thermal comfort and sustainability."

Sustainable Insulation is made from recycled and renewable content, including a plant-based binder, and contains no formaldehydes, dyes, acrylics or unnecessary fire-retardant chemicals and is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions. It won't settle, accumulate moisture, or lose its R-value over time. The product is available unfaced or kraft-faced, and is designed for use in standard wood stud and steel-frame wall assemblies.

CertainTeed offers a comprehensive line of insulation products and equipment, including time-tested and trusted fiber glass insulation batts and rolls, fiber glass blow-in insulation, spray polyurethane foam, innovative SMART vapor retarder and air barrier technology, and highly regarded HVAC products as well as insulation blowing and foam application equipment. All of CertainTeed’s insulation products can help building professionals qualify toward credits for both the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Green Building Standard supported by the National Association of Home Builders.
