Reviced hazardous waste generator regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) may bring changes to healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Facilities Today website.
A proposed rule focuses on hazardous waste pharmaceuticals.
The rulemaking process will be finalized sometime in 2016. Rule changes would take effect at the federal level six months later, impacting organizations that sell or dispense prescription or nonprescription pharmaceuticals.
The EPA’s goal is to enhance drinking and surface water quality by preventing the flushing of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals by healthcare facilities.
