Changes in the healthcare industry mean that outpatient facilities now come in many forms, according to an article on the Healthcare Facility Management website.

Technologies, including electronic health records and smart phones allow providers to offer multisite connected and coordinated care.

Healthcare delivery in transactional or multidimensional ambulatory environments faces competition in the areas of convenience, speed, cost and value.

The design requirements of transactional and multidimensional care delivery are different. Transactional care likely reflects a retail environment and character, with convenience in both location and time as primary components. Multidimensional care may require somewhat larger rooms that will accommodate more than one provider and the ability to review lab data and other information.
