Newly Launched Disinfecting System Reduces Hospital Acquired Infections


 PCT LTD, formerly Bingham Canyon Corporation (OTC Pink:BGHM), a leading provider of cleaning and disinfecting solutions, unveils its Annihilyzer® Infection Control System that is designed to help alleviate the growing problems of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI's).

In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated roughly 1.7 million hospital acquired infections, from all types of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, cause or contribute to 99,000 deaths each year, at a cost in excess of $120 Billion.  In European hospital surveys, the category of gram-negative bacterial infections such as E. Coli are estimated to account for two-thirds of the 25,000 deaths each year. HAI's, also known as Nosocomial Infections, include severe pneumonia and infections of the urinary tract, bloodstream and other parts of the body. Many types of infections display resistance to antimicrobial drugs, making them difficult and expensive to treat. Therefore, thorough disinfection of those surfaces and equipment, which patients and healthcare personnel touch, is necessary to reduce exposure.

Environmental cleaning and disinfecting is a fundamental principle of preventing infection in the hospital setting. Both porous surfaces (e.g., mattresses) and nonporous surfaces (e.g., bed rails) in patient rooms are highly susceptible to bacterial contamination from dangerous pathogens, including Clostridium difficile (C. diff.), and antibiotic-resistant organisms such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), and multiple species of Acinetobacter (Acinetobacter spp).  Hard, nonporous surfaces, high-touch items such as furniture, bed rails, and medical equipment, and fixed spaces like floors and bathroom facilities, form part of the environmental reservoir that can harbor significant microbial contamination.

The potential for these contaminated environmental surfaces contributing to transmission of pathogens has been clearly established for most, if not all, healthcare-associated pathogens, including MRSA, VRE, C. diff., and Acinetobacter spp. These nosocomial pathogens can survive on inanimate surfaces for prolonged periods.  For example, gram-positive bacteria such as MRSA and VRE have been shown to persist on dry surfaces for several weeks to months. C. diff, spores have been shown to survive for as long as five months. Thorough cleaning and disinfection of these surfaces is an important part of the comprehensive Infection Control Program for the prevention and reduction of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs).  A component of the system to address the disinfection of these surfaces is the Electrostatic Smart Applicators.  Microscopic organisms are usually hidden in deep cracks and crevasses inside or on the undersides of surface areas and continue to survive if coverage is spotty.  The extraordinary bonding of our disinfectant to the target and the complete, uniform coverage achieved are distinct advantages of Annihilyzer Electrostatic Smart Applicators.  Experience is showing it is not just what is applied but also how a disinfectant is applied that matters.

PCT has introduced a new cleaning and disinfecting system with technology that produces an effective and consistent, yet variable-PPM, solution that is created through an electrolytic process called Electro-Chemical Activation (ECA).  The system includes no harsh or toxic chemicals. The process produces two products -an antimicrobial agent at a high PPM of hypochlorous acid and neutral pH and an excellent degreasing cleanser that effectively removes the bio-load prior to disinfecting the surface.  Both the antimicrobial disinfectant and the cleanser are green seal certified and not harmful to furniture or electronic equipment.
