Newly patented cleaning system saves lives through cleaner hospitals


The last thing someone going into a hospital to give birth or have surgery expects is to contract a life threatening illness or worse.

And yet as executives of hospital systems know, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that in the United States there were 722,000 healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in acute care hospitals in 2011. About 75,000 hospital patients with HAIs died during their hospitalizations. Furthermore, the CDC appraises the overall annual direct medical costs of HAIs to US hospitals ranges between $28.4-33.8 billion in 2007 dollars.

Now with Newtown Square, PA-based Xanitos, Inc.’s newly patented XRO System, the risk of HAIs has reduced significantly.

The XRO System uses a three person, team approach, with the members using the XRO-1, -2.2, and -3 vacuum carts. These carts consist of an ultra-low particulate air filtration system and a patented motor designated to provide maximum suction while maintaining speaking voice-noise levels (just 50 dB). 

Other features of the cart and XRO System components reduce the risk of cross contamination between patients and patient rooms. 

So does the team, who Xanitos trains to use the XRO System to more efficiently clean rooms compared to other methods currently used by most hospitals.

Once the team completes the daily cleaning of patient areas, they break apart to focus on newly vacated rooms as peak discharge time approaches. This ensures increased bed turnover and provides yet another way for hospitals to enhance their bottom line by maximizing revenue from their inpatient areas.
