One Texas nursing home evacuation began with a gun drawn

Volunteer drew gun when facility staff wouldn't allow evacuation of patients

During Hurricane Harvey, residents were evacuated from one Cypress Glen senior care facility in Port Arthur, Texas,  only after a volunteer drew a gun, according to an article on the L.A. Times website.

A volunteer who had hurricane relief experience with the Louisiana Air National Guard had borrowed a friend’s boat and come to help. He went inside the facility and found the administrator.

Despite having residents sitting in a foot of water, the administrator said he'd only release the residents to the National Guard.

“Well, that’s not the way it’s going to work, man,” the volunteer replied. “These people are leaving.” Punches were thrown and he drew a gun, the article said.

“I had to do what I had to do,” he later explained. “We had to beat the crap out of (the administrator) — at least, I did.”
