Ontario health system introduces guest meal program

Family members and visitors on all inpatient units at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital can order meals

Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) in Ontario, Canada, recently introduced a guest meal program for family members and visitors on all inpatient units at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), according to an article on the Oakville Beaver website.

The program was piloted in the maternity unit in May and was implemented hospital-wide on Sept. 3.

“We often have situations where a parent of a sick hospitalized child, a visiting spouse or a family member, or friend, of an elderly patient is staying all day or even through the night to help care for or support their loved one,” Elma Hrapovich, HHS director of nutrition and food services, said in the article.

The program has been recognized as a National Leading Practice by Accreditation Canada.
