Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland created a lush second-floor terrace garden to test the impact of the plants on patients, visitors and staff, according to an article on the Healthcare Design website.

The project uses randomized controlled clinical trials and other techniques to document outcomes for mothers in early labor, family members of patients in the ICU and hospital staff who spend time in the outdoor space, the article said.
