Ontario's Ottawa Hospital is planning an expansion of its new unit for preemies, according to an article on the Ottawa Citizen website.
The renovations and expansion will provide more space, which will allow for single rooms for privacy and quiet for the babies.
The extra space will also make it easier to control infections, which can be devastating to preemies. The renovations will also provide more space for monitoring equipment.
In 2015, The Ottawa Hospital reported it was seeing an increase in the superbug methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, in the General’s neonatal intensive care unit.
