PIVOTek recognized for prefabrication innovation and design

At two premier prefabrication construction events in March, PIVOTek, a modular construction manufacturing company, was recognized for its industry-leading innovation in modular design. PIVOTek received first place honors for best Permanent Bathroom POD at the World of Modular Industry Show (March 17-20, 2016, San Diego, California) and Best Overall Vignette at the HI CONNECT Event (March 17-19, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee).

“These awards represent well-deserved recognition for the creativity and skill of our diverse team,” said PIVOTek President Kent Hodson. “Finding elegant solutions that fully capture the design intent of each project is our specialty. This allows us to expand our options for future modular bathroom projects. Our goal is to improve project predictability, increase efficiency, and reduce onsite waste, all while delivering impeccable quality. These awards emphasize that we take these values seriously and put them into action.”

PIVOTek creates custom, prefabricated bathroom and kitchen units for hospitality, healthcare, and higher education and government/public sector housing clients throughout the United States.

At the 33rd annual World of Modular Industry Show, PIVOTek earned the first place award for best Permanent Bathroom POD in the Modular Building Design category for its work on the 365,000 sq.-ft project, The Christ Hospital and Spine Center, in Cincinnati, OH. This project was completed in 543 days, despite the general expectation that finishes and tolerances that were used were not normally achievable in traditional bathroom POD projects.

The project included 90 hospital-grade bathroom PODS (the most difficult prefabricated PODS to design) with custom finishes applied across three different configurations, all of which needed to account for a zero-height transition from room to bathroom. PIVOTek’s innovation of no-threshold slabs, which account for wheelchairs and rolling IV trees, made the project a reality.

PIVOTek also worked with the onsite mechanical design firm to allow for the installation of PODs above the mechanical room, including additional mass necessary to eliminate mechanical vibrations.  PIVOTek coordinated accommodations needed for nurse call, medical gas, and fire protection, into the POD design to provide conduits, raceways, and other needed spaces for the specialty systems.

The PODS were cost effective while allowing for bariatric lifts and incorporated waste vent stacks.

“We provided for patient-focused features, such as a recessed area for flat screen TVs and, to assist in their actual care, fully equipped nursing station connections,” Hodson said. “These features and our partnership-first focus created an environment where the client increased their initial POD order by 50 percent after seeing the prototype POD that would be used in their facility.”

PIVOTek worked in conjunction with Architects Wright to take first place for the Extended Stay Suites Best Overall Vignette at HI CONNECT.

Jessica Wright, project manager at Architects Wright, a Knoxville, TN-based architectural firm, said the HI CONNECT vignette is being used as a basis for a proposal of a new construction boutique hotel. Architects Wright was the lead sponsor of the winning vignette, and PIVOTek provided the bathroom POD built precisely per their specification.

“PIVOTek’s unique approach to bathroom installation blended seamlessly within the vignette and aided in our design being voted ‘Best Overall Vignette’ at HI CONNECT 2016," Wright said.

Architects Wright and PIVOTek teamed with DPOVinteriors for the Millennial Extended Stay Guest Suite with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a full bath in 600 square feet.

“PIVOTek’s modular bathroom became one of many eye catching conversation starters with a vast array of hoteliers in our design,” Wright said. “Modular design was highlighted during an HI CONNECT panel discussion—revealing the importance of its implementation in the coming years. The panel discussion provided a foundation to further explain PIVOTek’s construction cost and savings for a ground up and renovation project."
