Pa. Hospital Using ‘Mobile Boiler Rooms’ During Repairs After Fire

The fire has been linked to a chemical reaction during maintenance work


UPMC Lock Haven Hospital in Lock Haven, Pa., has been closed after a fire in the boiler room. As repairs continue, mobile boiler rooms have been put in place, according to an article on the Lock Haven Express website.

Maintenance crews from the hospital had been working to seal a tunnel, which runs under the roadway from the boiler room to the hospital in an area near the emergency room entrance.

The crew was using a chemical sealant which had a reaction and started a fire in the boiler room.

The fire caused toxic smoke to start filling the hospital.

Hospital patients were evacuated and some were discharged and others were transferred to UPMC Williamsport and UPMC Muncy. The fire did not affect the residents at UPMC Haven Place or neighboring Susque-View, according to an article on the North Central Pa. website.
