Western Pennsylvania's Highmark Health's Allegheny Health Network plans to build a state-of-the-art hospital and new "neighborhood hospitals" and to renovate existing hospitals, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.
The network announced $315 million in capital improvements earlier this year and recently disclosed an additional $700 million.
The biggest project is a new, 160-bed hospital in a suburb of Pittsburgh.
In addition to the new hospital, AHN will partner with Emerus, a developer of micro-hospitals, to build four "neighborhood hospitals" in the region over the next 18 to 24 months.
