The Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C., is planning a dedicated outdoor rooftop healing garden with the help of its patients, according to an article on Contract magazine website.
Because of medical restrictions, children have a very limited or no access to nature during their stay, so the staff of Children’s National have developed a vision for a dedicated outdoor rooftop healing garden.
As part of the design process, a design charrette was held in a room overlooking the proposed low roof location to help the children express their vision for the healing garden. The patients created dioramas, drew their idea or expressing their thoughts with words and poetry.
The visioning sessions that were held with parents and the clinicians were designed to be more structured and focused on the principles of biophilia, the article said.
