Patient safety mistakes to avoid

Physician says healthcare has made missteps on patient safety journey


The healthcare industry has made some missteps in its patient safety quest, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality website.

Don Berwick, MD., a former CMS administrator and current senior fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, said one problem is that money has become more important than safety. 

Most healthcare leaders are increasingly concerned about cost reduction than patient safety.

Safety didn't even make the top five concerns in the Advisory Board Company's 2017 Annual Health Care CEO Survey, the article said.
