PatientTouch Smart Point-of-Care Mobile Solution achieves certification supporting meaningful use

By Healthcare Facilities Today

PatientSafe Solutions, a company focusing on point-of-care patient safety clinical workflow applications, announced that its PatientTouch System 3.2.2 and PatientTouch System 3.3 have received ONC 2014 Edition Modular EHR Certification from the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), an ONC-ACB, in accordance with applicable eligible hospital EHR technology criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

This certification will help hospitals that use the PatientTouch platform to attest for Meaningful Use Stage 2 criteria.

According to a release, the PatientTouch System is a mobile point- of-care platform that eliminates harm, reduces waste, and improves productivity for healthcare organizations seeking to maximize the value of their existing EHRtechnology while simultaneously preparing for the future of accountable care. The system pairs customized Apple iPhone 5 and iPod touch hardware with software applications designed to improve clinician workflow, ensure accurate medication administration, and foster care coordination and communication.

With the ONC 2014 Edition Modular EHR Certification announced, the PatientTouch System is now officially recognized to specifically support hospitals ready to attest to the following Meaningful Use measures: electronic medication administration record (eMAR), as well as vital signs and body mass index. Additionally, the PatientTouch System is certified for the following criteria for hospital technology: automated numerator recording; safety-enhanced design; and quality management system.

"We plan to use the PatientTouch System's modular certification as part of our attestation for Meaningful Use Stage 2," said Jake Dorst, vice president and chief information officer of Meritus Medical Center. "This patient medication and therapy management tool allows our clinicians to address critical safety risks by checking medication right at the bedside and keeping our workflows patient- centered."

Certified modular EHRs enable providers and hospitals to attest to one or more Meaningful Use criteria and may augment other partial EHRs to allow for full attestation. As certification criteria continue to develop, many providers are looking to these modular EHRs, rather than complete solutions, to work in conjunction with legacy systems.

"The PatientTouch System's broad capabilities are aligned with the ONC's goal of transforming the nation's healthcare system by driving meaningful improvements in patient outcomes and care quality," said Joe Condurso, president and chief executive officer of PatientSafe Solutions. "As the first smart point-of-care mobile solution to be certified, we believe the product stands to optimize current EHR systems and help hospitals attest for Meaningful Use, while simultaneously providing a foundation for the future of accountable care."

According to the company, this EHR module is ONC 2014 Edition compliant and has been certified by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), an ONC-ACB, in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
