Pipeline Health, a community-based hospital ownership and management company operating a network of facilities in Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles, has selected Cerner Corporation (NASDAQ: CERN), a global health platform and technology company, to update its electronic health record (EHR) systems throughout multiple, nationwide facilities. As Pipeline Health works to sustain hospitals that are the cornerstones of their respective communities, the company will leverage Cerner technology to further improve efficiency and enhance patient care. This switch to Cerner is significant, as it marks the first time all seven hospitals, 25 clinics and 12 free-standing emergency departments within the Pipeline Health network will operate on a single, connected EHR.
“These are very exciting times ahead for our company. By investing in a new EHR we aim to improve efficiency, position our company for future growth and most importantly, improve health outcomes for patients served by our providers,” said Jim Edwards, CEO, Pipeline Health. “Bringing all of our facilities onto the same EHR will help improve clinical decision making and boost health data access for our clinicians and patients, both now and well into the future.”
Though this agreement Pipeline Health will gain access to the Cerner Millennium® EHR, including clinical, revenue cycle, ambulatory and value-based care solutions through a remote-hosted model. The EHR is designed to provide doctors and clinicians access to patient medical data across multiple venues of care, from hospitals to clinics and specialty practices. This supports providers in making informed, data-driven decisions without leaving the clinical workflows.
Patients across all Pipeline Health facilities will have 24/7 access to their health records through the Cerner patient portal. This tool is integrated with the EHR and serves as a secure portal between patients and their providers. Patients who sign-up through the portal can access their health records, communicate with providers through secure messaging, settle balances, update information and book or change appointments with ease.
Cerner will replace multiple disparate EHR systems across the Pipeline Health network. The new platform will be rolled out during a 28-month, phased go-live schedule across Pipeline Health markets.
