Pizza and takeaway donations to UK hospitals could 'compromise' infection control

Officials asked people to stop donating hot and fresh food deliveries as it increased ‘certain risks.’

Health officials at some UK hospitals said donations of food such as pizza and takeaways can "compromise" systems of infection prevention, according to an article on the Liverpool Echo website.

On April 14, Southport and Ormskirk Hospital officials asked people to stop donating hot and fresh food deliveries as it increased "certain risks."

Bridget Lees, director of infection prevention and control at the NH trust said unplanned fresh and cooked food deliveries had the potential to "compromise" infection prevention in hospitals.

She added the hospitals in Southport and Ormskirk needed to control access of who enters during the period of the coronavirus pandemic to help combat the spread of the virus.
