Pocono facility stresses aesthetics, convenience

Artwork, homelike settings and gentle atmospheric lighting greet patients at Pennsylvania clinic

Pocono Medical Center's Bartonsville Healthcare Center design is part of a patient-centric trend to provide comfortable settings that both attract clients and promote healing through pleasant environments, according to an article on the Pocono Record website.

"Gone are the hospital green walls, bright lighting and functional, minimalistic decor. Instead, mint and avocado walls are lined with artwork, waiting areas are carpeted, and gentle atmospheric lighting adorns all but the treatment rooms," the article said.

Convenience was also part of the design plan at the Pennsylvania facility, according to the article. There's parking next to the center's entrance and a greeter at the front door. There is also a touch screen kiosk at the entrance. When visitors tap the department or treatment they came for and enter their name, a ticket with a number is printed. That ticket also alerts the treatment department that the patient has arrived.

Patients sit in the large, living room-like waiting area until their number is called or they can follow their number's progress on one of several flat-screen monitors.
