Q: I reside in California. Do I need a special license or certificate to perform monthly and quarterly sprinkler systems tests and/or inspections? I am primarily interested in main drain tests.

A: No. NFPA 25 Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems requires only “qualified” people to perform the inspections and testing activities, and “qualified” means being competent and capable, and having met any requirements and training that are acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.
