S.C. healthcare facility taking down tower, change parking system

Demolition of four stories of the east tower adjacent to the emergency room will result in the yearlong closure of an entrance and complete overhaul of its parking layout

Demolition of four stories of the Self Regional Healthcare tower adjacent to the emergency room will result in the yearlong closure of an entrance and complete overhaul of its parking layout, according to an article on the Index-Journal website.

It's among the most significant changes to Greenwood, S.C., healthcare facility since the opening of a $60 million, 120-foot-tall patient tower in 2006.

"We have no practical use for it with where it's located," said Lee Lowe, Self's director of facility services and grounds maintenance.

"As healthcare has changed, it has become largely outpatient, and the facility is pretty much vacant, so it's inefficient to keep it going."
