In its "Small Hospital, Big Idea Competition," Kaiser Permanente asked designers to envision what acute care might look like in the future. Some of the results of that competition are part of the design of San Diego Central Hospital, according to an article on the Healthcare Design website. The concepts included an inboard toilet to allow for a larger window and a large monitor that serves as an information, care and entertainment portal.
