Saratoga Hospital tearing down facility in order to expand

Existing building to be leveled for larger operating rooms and a new intensive care unit

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Saratoga Hospital has started a $36 million construction project that involves tearing down an existing building to make room for new and larger operating rooms.

The operating rooms are one of two elements of the construction project, according to an article on the Albany Business Journal website. Work already has begun on a new intensive care unit with 19 beds. It's being built within empty shelled space.

According to the article, the project reflects a need to reinvigorate the hospital's core space in a rapidly growing market.

The reinvestment is happening as the foundation of the hospital's business model is changing with the Affordable Care Act, which aims to be the biggest expansion of health insurance since Medicare and Medicaid were created almost 50 years ago.
