Saskatchewan system explores new way of delivering healthcare

New Yorkton facility is being designed to decrease hospital admissions by linking people to primary healthcare

A new healthcare facility in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada, is being designed to decrease hospital admissions by linking people to primary healthcare.

The Sunrise Health Region's latest site will open its doors in the fall of 2014. The new facility will open in a leased space that will serve as the central hub for integrated primary healthcare in the region, according to an article on the Yorkton News website.

“What is exciting about leasing in a newly constructed building is that we have been able to design the interior to maximize use of the space for the needs of our clients,” said Vice President of Integrated Primary Health, Sandy Tokaruk, in the article.

“We are moving towards a system that decreases hospital admissions by linking people to a primary healthcare team specialized for each individual’s unique health care needs. We will focus on keeping people well rather than waiting for an illness to occur. It’s the upstream approach,” said Tokaruk.
