Saskatoon healthcare facility opens with state-of-the-art technology

The Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility (SIHF) in Maple Creek, Saskatoon, will have nurse communication devices that are integrated with the telephone system

The Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility (SIHF) in Maple Creek, Saskatoon, will have nurse communication devices that are integrated with the telephone system, according to an article on the Southwest Booster website.

The facility's 45 long-term care beds  will be spread out over three separate wings of the SIHF. Each room has a private bath, bed, and wardrobe, and each of the three long-term care wings has the option of providing one couple the opportunity to share a room or to create an adjoined living space. Residents will have access to a courtyard, fully-functional kitchen, laundry facilities, and a family room.

The facility has taken te traditional nurse call system and made it a communication device integrated with the telephone system. It can be used for patient and staff safety and especially to support work flow.

"This building is designed with that ‘lean concept’ – so the idea is no wait. To do that, we have to be able to have that technology to move people around effectively and efficiently, and that’s what the system will do for us,” hospital officials said.
