Schneider Electric launches new compact line of meters with superior accuracy and enhanced power quality functionality

Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced the newest addition to its PowerLogic™ portfolio of power and energy meters. Capabilities once reserved for more advanced meters now come standard in the PowerLogic PM8000 series, allowing it to deliver superior revenue accuracy, as well as power quality compliance and analysis ideal for industrial and critical power facilities as well as electric utility feeder meter applications.

The PowerLogic PM8000 series is highly accurate, extremely reliable and helps ensure contractual obligations for power quality. The meters’ extensive power quality analysis capabilities include EN 50160 compliance, sag/swell detection, waveform capture, disturbance direction detection, automated alarm configuration, trending and forecasting – which help facility managers detect, mitigate and correct adverse conditions.

“Power quality monitoring is crucial for power-critical facilities like hospitals, data centers, large manufacturers and utilities” said John Straughn, Offer Manager, Schneider Electric. “We designed the PM8000 series to aid with both power quality compliance monitoring and analysis. Data accuracy is assured to IEC 61000-4-30 Class S and IEC 62586 standards when verifying contractual supply levels. If a PQ event does occur, the patented disturbance direction detection feature helps identify the location by determining if it occurred upstream or downstream of the meter, so correcting the problem is much faster.”

In addition, the PM8000 series helps facilities protect their infrastructure by addressing power quality issues before they cause problems that may damage or shorten the life of expensive equipment. The PM8000’s four-metered current inputs allow direct measurement of 3-phase currents and neutral current for an enhanced view of harmonics to mitigate excessive heating and premature failure of transformers, while trending and alarming detect fluctuations in current pull of critical equipment to prevent motor failure.

Engineered on a compact, modular and flexible platform, the PowerLogic PM8000 series meters have the versatility to perform nearly any metering job at key points throughout a facility. Available in panel-mount and DIN rail-mount form factors with high-visibility color displays, the meters are additionally compliant with ANSI C12.20 Class 0.2, IEC 62053-22 Class 0.2S (real energy), and IEC 61557-12. This accuracy combined with the meter’s extensive I/O options makes the PM8000 series meters ideal for unified metering of all WAGES (water, air, gas, electricity, and steam) utilities.

Patented ION™ technology combines convenient, pre-configured functionality with the ability to customize the meter configuration to meet unique requirements. This embedded capability can save the expense and complexity of additional equipment, both today and tomorrow. Furthermore, simple installation and networking make energy information quickly accessible with easy integration with energy management systems.
