Seyfarth Bolsters its Healthcare and Energy Practices with the Addition of Two Corporate Partners in Washington, D.C


Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced the arrival of partners John D. Shire and William B. Eck to the Corporate department in Washington, D.C. Shire arrives from the Washington, D.C. office of Fox Rothschild LLP. Eck joins from the Washington, D.C. office of Hooper, Lundy &  Bookman, P.C., a prominent California-based health law boutique firm.

Their arrivals follow the recent additions of Timothy Bennett (Boston), Gordon Peery (Los Angeles), Andrew Sherman (Washington, D.C.), Julia Jacobson (Boston) and Thomas Schramkowski (Atlanta). Seyfarth’s Corporate department focuses on areas such as mergers and acquisitions, securities, investment management, corporate counseling, commercial transactions, financing, international business, and tax planning. Seyfarth’s Health Care Mergers & Acquisitions team works regularly on health care mergers, acquisitions, sales and affiliations across a range of providers—including non-profit and for-profit hospital organizations, regional health care systems, physician groups, specialized health care centers, and industry service providers.

About the New Partners
 
John D. Shire represents public and private companies on both the buy and sell sides of business acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial contracts and private capital transactions. He also regularly serves as outside counsel to many businesses in the health care, energy, technology and financial services industries. Shire also represents clients in licensing, regulatory and compliance matters before state and federal agencies.
 
Shire earned his J.D. from the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, where he served as an Associate Editor of The Dickinson Law Review. He graduated with a B.A., cum laude, from Bucknell University.
 
With over 30 years of health law transactional, regulatory and enforcement experience, William B. Eck’s practice is focused on representing health care providers and investors in all phases of mergers and acquisitions, financings, regulatory matters, reimbursement matters and internal and governmental investigations. He represents health care and private equity clients in complex transactions, including over 25 hospital purchase and sale transactions. Eck also represents clients in government and internal investigations, and advises them on compliance, payment, and reimbursement matters.
 
Eck received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and was Valedictorian upon graduation from Loyola University of Chicago where he earned a B.A., summa cum laude.
