Shots fired at Los Angeles healthcare facility

Los Angeles Hospital staff and patients evacuated or sheltered in place

At Los Angeles Hospital in Downey, Calif., staff and patients evacuated or sheltered in place after a man in the mental health unit fired six or seven times, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

An armed suspect was eventually arrested after causing a disturbance in the mental health unit, kicking the walls and throwing a chair out of a window before he produced a handgun.

About 400 people were evacuated and some people sheltered in place.

The active shooter training involving police and security personnel they had conducted at the hospital this past spring helped them to effectively handle the situation, the article said.
