Arkansas Children's Hospital shares methods for dealing with medical waste

By Healthcare Facilities Today

In a recent article on the Health Facilities Management website Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) in Little Rock shared it's six steps for implementing a successful waste management program.

The six steps the hospital recommends are:

1. Align the vision with management.

2. Know where to throw hospital waste.

3. Understand state-by-state regulations and legislation.

4. Take a reusable approach.

5. Recycle your way toward greater sustainability.

6. Share the lessons learned.

ACH serves more than 14,000 inpatients annually, employees 4,500 full-time staff and spans over 29 city blocks. The facility won two awards from Practice Greenhealth — the "Partner Recognition" in 2009 and the "Partner for Change" in 2011.
