Space Coast hospitals, nursing homes prepped for Dorian

The emergency management coordinator for Brevard County started daily conference calls with local hospital systems last week

Healthcare providers on Florida’s Space Coast prepped for whatever Dorian might deliver, according to an article on the Florida Today website.

The emergency management coordinator for Brevard County started daily conference calls with local hospital systems and the Department of Health last week.

"Florida statute requires nursing homes to have an emergency plan for them to use during these types of emergencies. The nursing homes also know there is a requirement to use Agency for Health Care Administration's Emergency Status System,” according to the coordinator.

Such coordination and cooperation is critical given the vulnerability of patients at health care facilities, highlighted by the death in 2017 of patients, ranging in age from 57 to 99, at The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills near Miami, the article said.
