Study examines disinfectants effect on C. diff

Researchers compare effectiveness of four products

By Michael V. Tolliver / Special to Healthcare Facilities Today

In a recent study, researchers compared the effectiveness of four disinfectants on killing Clostridium difficile PCR ribotypes, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control & Clinical quality website.

The group, from the Netherlands, recently published its results in the journal Antimicrobial Resistance & Infection Control.

The four compounds were:

• Glucoprotamin

• Hydrogen peroxide

• Ethanal, propane, amino propyl glycine

• Didecyldimonium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, polyaminopropyl, biguanide, dimenthicone (spray only)

The study found wipes performed better than sprays with the same active ingredients, and wipes with hydrogen peroxide "showed the highest bactericidal activity."
