Advanced surgical suites can look a lot like a state-of-the-art home theaters

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Advanced surgical suites can look a lot like a state-of-the-art home theaters, according to an article on the Healthcare Purchasing News website.

These high definition displays are playing a more crucial role in surgical and interventional radiology suites today with minimally invasive endoscopic surgeries guided by on-screen images from the surgical site and diagnostic images being brought into the operating room, the article said.

Home-theater features such as wide screen viewing, picture-in-picture display, multi-modality imaging, touch screen functionality and even 3-D imaging are offering new opportunities and capabilities to medical teams.

The worldwide market for medical-grade displays is growing quickly. Healthcare Purchasing News quoted the "Medical Displays - World – 2013" report from IHS Inc., which forecasted  revenue to rise to $3.2 billion in 2017, up 29 percent from $2.5 billion in 2012.

The report said the fastest growth in the medical-grade display market will be generated by the radiology and surgical segments.
