Sweden's leadership in sustainable design is often reflected in its healthcare design, according to a blog on the Healthcare Design website. Mike Apple, of HDR Architecture Inc., wrote that Scandinavian hospitals are likely to have courtyards, skylights and relatively narrow floor plates. It’s common for operating rooms to have exterior windows and for ICU rooms to have operable windows, he said.
