System adopts consistant room standards for large projects

Standard design for patient, exam and operating rooms thought to encourage consistent practices

Advocate Health Care, in Downers Grove, Ill., is building patient rooms and some clinical spaces to design standards to achieve consistent operational practices throughout its new projects and ultimately improve patient outcomes, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Designing room standards involves determining details ranging from where to locate medical equipment, cabinets, hand-washing sinks and soap dispensers to choosing materials used for counter tops and wall covers, the article said.

The goal is to maximize staff efficiency and patient safety and then repeat the design in each of Advocate's new construction projects.
