In April 2020, 16 hospitals across the United States were recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation’s first-ever Tree Campus Healthcare facilities program, according to an article on the Facility Executive website.
The healthcare facilities recognized demonstrated a commitment to improving community wellness through tree planting, education, and community engagement at their campus. A tree canopy has been called a critical component of community health infrastructure.
For instance, landscaping is one of the best forms of natural pest control available, according to an earlier Facility Executive article, some plantings, certain soils and the right layouts can dramatically decrease pest infestations.
The Arbor Day Foundation is now accepting applications for the second year.
