The Clarient Group expands industry-leading in-building wireless practice group to include radio frequency (RF)/public safety systems

The Clarient Group, a full service technology consulting and design firm, is pleased to announce that it has expanded its  practice group focused on in-building wireless to include radio frequency (RF)  and public safety systems.  To support this practice, TCG has hired Richard Fann and Michael Caponi III, two of the industry’s leading experts in the development and design of these systems.  They join TCG veteran Lawrence Werner, another leader in the field, to lead the firm’s initiatives in in-building wireless technology services.

Public safety systems allow first responders (fire, police, EMS) to communicate effectively inside a building during emergencies, improving their ability to rescue people in the event of a fire or other emergency situation.  In 2014, New York City mandated that these systems (called Auxiliary Radio Communication Systems or ARCS) be installed in all new buildings or major renovations over 75 feet in height.  Many other municipalities have also begun to mandate these systems in new buildings or renovations.  Additionally, the Federal Government has initiated the First Responder Network Authority (or FirstNet®) to provide the first nationwide broadband network related to public safety. Public safety systems represents one component of our in-building wireless technology services, which also includes distributed antenna systems (DAS), cellular, WiFi and two-way radio.

Richard Fann has over 35 years of experience with RF systems engineering and wireless technology.  For the past sixteen years, he has been involved in all aspect of public safety/first responder systems, including design, engineering, optimization, deployment, performance specifications and consulting.  For the past twelve years, he has led a team instrumental in aiding first responders with the development of updated in-building radio specification to ensure operation and survivability of radio communications during emergency events. Mr. Fann is a Certified In-Building Engineering Technologist (CIBET) - Advanced RF.

Michael Caponi III brings over thirty years of experience with RF communications from the component level circuits to extensive networked radio systems and DAS.   For the past fifteen years, he has been involved with system design, deployment, optimization and performance systems development, and has become one of the industry’s leading DAS experts.  Mr. Caponi is a PCIA - Certified Mobile Communication Technician.  He has served as engineer-of-record or design consultant on many major projects including One World Trade Center, Hudson Yards platform and Buildings A & C, the new Yankee Stadium, Hearst Tower, and MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.

Lawrence Werner has over twenty-five years of experience in all phases of a project including the analysis, concept development, programming, design, engineering, project management and administration, as well as training and commissioning of integrated technology based solutions.  Mr. Werner has successfully managed diverse projects and teams in the development and implementation of effective technology solutions.  He has led numerous DAS projects including the Columbia University Manhattanville campus, One World Trade Center and other major projects.

In expanding the firm’s focus in in-building wireless systems, TCG president Charlie Buscarino said “We believe in the importance of having public safety systems in our buildings.  It provides an invaluable resource to help first responders fulfill their mission in a safe and efficient manner.  These systems also provide a valuable safety measure for the public by facilitating first responders in locating people in an emergency situation.  With the addition of Rich and Michael to our team, The Clarient Group has the strongest team of professionals in the planning and design of public safety systems that will meet the requirements of FDNY’s ARCS program and similar programs nationally.”
