Cost estimating a healthcare project can hep avoid surprises on bid day, according to an article on the Healthcare Operation + Construction website.

Cost estimating throughout the construction process helps keep projects on budget and provides facility owners with information about system life cycles.

"It’s essential in understanding how many square feet are needed for a project and how much it will cost,"  said Paul Whitson, senior vice president and regional healthcare leader in HOK’s St. Louis office 

"There are generally two big changes in (cost-estimating) project phases: when you move from unit-costing to systems-costing and when unforeseen contingency costs become clearer."
