Healthcare facilities that pursue sustainability initiatives find multiple benefits, according to an article on the Knowledge@Wharton website.
According to a 2014 report from the American Hospital Association and the Health Research and Educational Trust, “Environmental Sustainability in Hospitals: The Value of Efficiency”:
“Environmental sustainability is also good business, as it helps lower operational costs and allows hospitals to direct more resources to patient care.”
Among examples cited in the report are Memorial Hermann Health System saving $47 million through energy improvements over five years and Kaiser Permanente saving $4 million annually by buying energy-efficient computers.
