Transitioning to digital television systems in healthcare facilities

High-quality television is an expected healthcare amenity


Many hospitals are upgrading their televisions and the related equipment from analog to digital, as more patients expect not only high-quality medical care, but more comfort and amenities, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website. An important amenity is good television service. 

When hospitals need to replace the old coax sytem to get dependable digital service it can be a costly, time-consuming, and messy process, the article said. 

One alternative is switching to a television network that runs on twisted-pair cable.

An unpowered distribution hub in the wiring closet distributes RF signals on twisted pair cable. The signals do not pass through a network switch and do not use any bandwidth on the network.
