Health agencies said they won't do any more investigating of the fatal mold outbreak at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), despite a recently uncovered internal UPMC report that found mold on freshly cleaned laundry in a hospital and in the laundry facility where hospital linens were cleaned, according to an article on the Post-Gazette website.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that they see no reason to investigate the outbreak further.
“The facts of this investigation don’t support the conclusion that infections resulted from exposure to linens,” the health department said in an emailed statement.
The internal report showed that an investigator hired by UPMC found the same type of mold on freshly washed linens at the UPMC Montefiore facility, and also at the laundry facility where it had been washed and dried.
